Keith J. Turner, Esq.
Keith Turner has been practicing since 1990. He spent his first 16 years at larger firms, including being a partner at a Beverly Hills firm. He represented large companies and entities in complex legal matters involving business, real estate, and insurance issues, and at the urging of a large client, he opened his own law office in 2007 to provide the same high-quality legal representation but with greater ability to offer alternative and performance-based fee arrangements.
He applies his knowledge and experience in large and complex matters to every case, no matter what the size. Optimistic and willing to fight for his clients, Keith Turner places great emphasis on initial evaluations that result in cost-effective, results-oriented strategies to save his clients valuable time and money.
As a litigator, Keith Turner represents clients in business, entertainment, insurance, legal malpractice, and real estate matters. He also serves as outside general counsel for manufacturing, construction, and real estate-related businesses. In addition to his own practice, he is “of counsel” to the Beverly Hills boutique law firm Funsten & Franzen.

Keith Turner received his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He graduated from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he attended on academic scholarship as the recipient of the Webster Burke Merit Scholarship. He was also on the Dean’s Honor List, was extern for a federal judge, wrote a number of substantive and procedural decisions, contributed to many law review articles, and was legal researcher for a professor who is one of the leading experts on the Uniform Commercial Code.
Today, Keith Turner receives requests and often speaks to attorney groups and business on various legal issues including attorney’s fees, managing litigation, and view rights. He is a frequent contributor to legal publications and local newspapers.
Along with his wife and daughter, Keith Turner is very active in the Pacific Palisades community and other charitable organizations, including serving on the executive boards and special committees for a number of organizations and local schools.
Keith Turner strongly supports his children in their own recognized community involvement and supports their competitive soccer teams. He is also well known for being the drummer in a top local band for the past ten years, which routinely plays the top clubs on the Sunset Strip.
Angelica J. Varela, Esq.
Angelica J. Varela is licensed in California and Florida and has been practicing business and real estate litigation for 10 years. Over her career, Ms. Varela has litigated high profile civil litigation cases involving all types of business and real estate disputes, including high profile land sale/purchase contractual disputes, partnership and development disputes, high stakes mold cases, and contentious neighbor v. neighbor, CC&R, homeowner association and view rights cases. Ms. Varela is very experienced and has a record of results in all phases of civil litigation, from pleadings, motions, discovery practice, deposition to trial and appellate work.
Ms. Varela joined Turner Law Firm in March 2015 where she has continued to litigate business and real estate disputes and expand the firm’s practice and success. Ms. Varela is a key part of the firm’s continued growth and success.
Ms. Varela earned her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and a Minor in Legal Studies. In between undergraduate and law school, Ms. Varela worked at SeaWorld of Florida’s animal training department where her focus was in animal behavior and training. Following Sea World, Ms. Varela graduated from St. Thomas School of Law in Miami, Florida and was admitted to the Florida State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. In 2013, after relocating to the West Coast, Ms. Varela was admitted to the California State Bar, and most recently became a member of the US District Court Central District of California.
Since her licensure in California, Ms. Varela has become an active member in the Santa Monica Bar Association, where she co-chairs the Real Estate Committee. Outside of the complex litigation work, in Florida, Ms. Varela actively handled pro bono matters in dependency court in where her focus was dedicated to underprivileged mothers and issues arising with the Department of Children and Families.
Ms. Varela is fluent in French and Spanish and works with the Spanish speaking clients of the firm.
Justin Escano, Law Clerk
Justin Escano graduated from Loyola Law School in May 2016, and will be taking the California Bar Examination in July 2016. Justin began at the Turner Law Firm as a legal assistant after graduating from the University of California-Irvine. Justin has considerable experience in all phases of litigation including preparing complex appeal briefs and motions, drafting discovery motions, preparing discovery requests and responses, all phases of trial preparation, factual investigation, document gathering and review, and electronic discovery.
Justin is a graduate of Loyola High School in Los Angeles, where he was on the golf team. Justin also shares Keith Turner’s passion for music, and plays guitar in his own rock band.
Megan Smith, Legal Assistant
Megan Smith is responsible for all administrative operations and also provides paralegal support. Like Keith Turner, Megan Smith earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and French, and even spent a year studying abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France. After graduating college, Megan’s organization and creative talents landed her in the legal services industry. Megan was a legal assistant and paralegal at law firms in Honolulu and Memphis before relocating to Los Angeles. Outside of the office Megan really enjoy the California lifestyle, including biking to work and spending time at the beach or hiking in the canyons.
